Weathering the Storms: Derinda Sage’s Gift to Truckers

We often talk about the women in trucking who are behind the wheel. But what about the women who support the drivers behind the wheel?

Today, I want to highlight one of those extraordinary women. She’s not sitting in a driver’s seat, but she’s behind a keyboard, making a huge difference for all of us on the road. Her name is Derinda Sage, and she is the heart and dedication behind the Facebook page Daily Forecast And Road Conditions For Truckers.

Derinda is married to longtime Landstar BCO and owner-operator, Mike Sage. Back in 2018, she started her page as a way to help a few friends and drivers manage their routes by providing up-to-date weather and road conditions. What began as a small effort quickly grew into something much bigger.

Today, her page has nearly 40,000 members and has become one of the most helpful resources for truckers. I’ve personally been a member for years, and the information Derinda shares has helped us make safer and smarter routing decisions.

Derinda knows firsthand the importance of this work. She rode with Mike for about two years and saw how vital weather alerts, accident updates, and road closures were to him — especially in winter. She once said:

“If I can make a driver’s day just a bit easier out there, help them with just telling them a big storm is coming, I feel like my page has done the job it was meant to do.”

Over time, she also opened her page to RVers, who often follow the same routes truckers do, as well as to drivers’ families who want to keep track of conditions affecting their loved ones.

The community she has built is respectful, helpful, and laser-focused on the page’s mission. Drivers post real-time updates and keep information current for each other, while Derinda maintains strict standards to ensure the page remains exactly what it was intended to be: a safe, reliable space for vital road and weather information.

Her busiest season begins in September, with winter storms and hurricane season keeping her at the computer for 12–15 hours on some days. Summers may be slower, but winter demands everything she’s got. Right now, she’s gearing up for the months ahead — gathering information from across the country so drivers can keep moving safely.

Derinda, from all of us out here on the road: thank you. Your dedication makes a real difference, and you are truly a woman in trucking with a heart for drivers everywhere.

Signed — all 40,000 members of Daily Forecast And Road Conditions For Truckers!
